Let’s be real: not every purchase fits into a bonus category like dining or groceries. That’s where the Capital One Venture Card shines. If you’re serious about maximizing your points on every single swipe, this is one of the best tools in our travel-hacking toolkit.
The Capital One Venture card gives you 2x miles on every single purchase. It doesn’t matter if you’re buying coffee, concert tickets, tires, or tax payments—you’re getting rewarded.
For just $95 a year, this card is incredibly easy to justify, especially with the current welcome offer:
75,000 bonus miles after meeting the minimum spend
$250 travel credit through the Capital One Travel portal
That’s basically two years of card ownership paid for you, before you even start earning miles.
We think of the Venture card as the perfect "catch-all" card. If a purchase doesn't fall under one of our 4x or 5x point categories with another card, it gets put on this.
While lounge access is still limited, the Venture card gives you two free visits per year to Capital One Lounges (currently in Dallas, Denver, and Dulles). The lounges are seriously next-level with wellness rooms, high-end food, and beautiful workspaces. Not a game-changer, but definitely a perk worth mentioning.
One big win for us last year? Paying our property taxes with this card.
Our county charges a 1.6% fee for credit card payments.
The Venture earns 2x points worth ~1.85 cents per point (according to ThePointsGuy) through travel transfers.
That means we were effectively getting back around 4% in value, on a charge that otherwise earns you nothing. This is what makes the Venture card such a powerful addition to your wallet.
If you have a Capital One card or bank account, you get access to Capital One Offers (not to be confused with Capital One Shopping). This is a separate shopping portal inside the Capital One app or online account dashboard.
We’ve seen some wild deals in there, including:
I received 30k miles, for a $5 membership at Lifelock!!!!!!
1700x miles per dollar at USA Today
Offers where you literally earn more in miles than you spend in cash
The key is consistency. These offers rotate often, and if you check in regularly, you can score some serious point multipliers. Grace and I keep a close eye on them and will continue posting the best offers we see on our Instagram stories. So make sure to drop us a follow @TravelPointsAndPassports!
Capital One lets you earn 20,000 miles per referral, up to 50,000 miles per year. That’s an easy way to keep padding your travel fund.
